PATTERN MAKING

Pattern making is a blueprint of the garment, from which we cut the fabric and sew it. Pattern is a template from which different parts of garment are traced on fabric. Pattern is a technical drawing or we can say drafting of a garment. Pattern making is a process in which standard size chart, dress form or live figure is measured and that measurements are converted into 2D pattern. Pattern making is very essential process before cutting and sewing a garment and pattern making is necessary for fashion designers to make different garment styles. There are some different methods of pattern making like
DRAFTING:-
Drafting involves measurements from standard size chart or measurement taken from person's actual body or dress form. Horizontal measurements, vertical measurements & circumference measurements are taken for drafting. It involves marking lines, seam allowance, notches, pattern name, size, cut part are mark on brown paper or cardboard.
DRAPING:-
In draping, piece of fabric around a form, and create a shape according to body form or actual body. It create 3D dimensional pattern. Muslin fabric is use for draping. After this pattern is converted onto paper. And seam allowance is added to make garment easy to wear. Draping creates visual effect of garment design that how it will look after stitching. Whereas draping process is more expensive and time consuming process.
FLAT PATTERN MAKING:-
Sloper is pattern that having no seam allowance and style lines. It is just a basic pattern we can create new styles by adding different design details. A Slopper is starting point of the pattern . There are five basic patterns are use for pattern designing.
1. Basic bodice block front
2. Basic bodice block back with darts
3. Basic sleeve
4. Basic skirt block front with darts
5. Basic skirt block back with darts.
