 Role and Responsibilities of Line Manager in Apparel Industry




Main handler of the whole single or more production line is known as line a manager. It has varies responsibilities of getting work done start from receiving the cut pieces to dispatching to the finishing department. One can have a single production line or more than one. Line manager have supervisors, quality checker (Q.C.), technician of that line under him/her. 

1. Achieving the target –

In the start of the day line manager receives daily target from production manager/production head. Accordingly to the target line manager gives instructions to the supervisors, quality checker, team leaders of operators, etc. and gets the work done. Achieving the target is very crucial responsibility of line manager. 

2. Improve the line production –

Every line manager wants to improve it’s line production. For this line manager has to engage as much as possible with operator’s skill, technical improvement in the machines, try to get new more advanced machineries, looking towards the automation, increasing the line efficiency and quality of products.

3. Taking morning meeting –

Daily in the morning line manager has to make discussion with it’s supervisors, quality checker, team leaders, technician to discuss about daily target, need of any maintenance, need of skillpool operators, need of trims, accessories, etc. 

4. Get the hourly report –

Line manager observers every hourly report of each section of the production line. It observers and analysis the data and make supervisors to get work done fast as per reports to achieve the daily target. It shows pieces done, WIP, alterations, etc. With this hourly report one can find operator’s per hour performance.

5. Examine production file –

Production file created by buyer contains tech pack, measurement sheet, packing details, size chart, etc. Whenever their is new lot/order for production, line manager has to study production file of that order. After this line manager can check whether production is going well or not according to the buyer’s requirement. 

6. Submit the report –

When shift is ended line manager has to submit the report of number of total pieces done, WIP, monthly completion, etc. This submitted data directly goes to the management team of the organisation.
