Types of Needle Points for Apparel
In the sewing needle, it varies with the size or diameter of the
needle tip (point) according to the nature of fabric. The point of the needle
should be in manner that it will not harm the fabric, easily penetrate through
the fabric, protect the needle from breaking or bending.
Let’s see various types of Needle Points manufactured by the well
known needle manufacturer Groz-Beckert –
All textiles, whether woven, warped, felted or knitted, are sewn
with a specific needle point shape to suit their structure. The right choice of
point has a significant effect on the finished sewing results. The right needle
tip will give you the high quality results you want.

1. RS
This type of needle is suitable for
blindstitch needles. Also for precise stitch sequence in lockstitch operations
susceptible to damage. This point is very sensitive one.

2. R
This needle is most commonly used for all
kinds of lockstitch applications (FST 301). It is used particularly for woven
fabric, artificial leather, coated fabric, etc.

3. RG
This type of needle is highly recommended for
all the types of chainstitch applications (FST 401). It suitable for knitted
fabric, microfibers, button sewing, multiple-head embroidery, leather for
garments.

4. FFG (SUK)
FFG or SUK is generally used for knitted and
woven fabric.

5. FG (SES)
This type of needle is recorded for highly
elasticated fabric with elastomeric, spandex blends.

G point needle is suitable for coarse and open
structured elasticated fabric.

7. SKL
It is used in warped fabric knits with high
quality of elastane like underwear.

8. TR
TR has used for 'Schiffli' embroidery application for open
structures like tulle and curtains.
