Role and responsibility of Quality Controller in Apparel Industry
Quality control check all the products after sewing is completed at the end of the production line. There can be more than one check post for quality control within a single production line like section wise section. Quality control has responsibility to check the quality of the product. If it is ok a then the product is send to the finishing department. The main response roles and responsibility of quality controller are as follows –
1. Checking Quality –
The main aim of the quality controller is to check whether the product satisfies the all the requirements mention by the buyer in the production file. Quality checker has to check each and every aspect of the product accordingly to the production file containing measurement sheet, tech pack and size chart. Packing details is checked by finishing department.
2. Calculate DHU –
DHU (Defects per Hundred Units) is number of pieces returned for alterations from every 100 pieces. Their is a chart used to mention records of defects found in various parts of the product e.g. in a shirt defects can be found at collar, armhole, cuff, pocket, etc. Q.C. has to mention founded defects in front of this names in chart.
3. Mark defect and return –
When defect is found it should be marked by chalk or stick some sticker, so that while returning it will come to know to whom to give for alteration and operator can also easily spot the defect and can alter it.
4. Knowledge about product –
Q.C. must have knowledge of the product, defects, etc. It should understand is their any defect or else it is perfect e.g. in case of armhole fullness in jacket product, Q.C. must detect the defect if their is uneven fullness because fullness defect is subjective.
5. Sending pieces to finishing department –
When pieces satisfy all the required quality as per buyer’s need, it is send to the finishing department where ironing, folding, tagging, packing, etc. Is done.
6. Record the data –
Q.C. must record all the data of total pieces send to the finishing department, DHU, number of pieces returned for alterations, etc. So that this data cam be used for study and further improvement in the production line.
