Fabric Relaxation Process in Garment Industry

Fabric Relaxation Process in Garment Industry

Relaxation process is very important in garment industry when it comes to wool, pure cotton, hosiery fabric or spandex blend fabrics. It means just unrolling the fabric roll and keep it for few hours to get fabric back in shape. This is mandatory to get fabric dimensionally stable so that it won’t create any measurement problem during cutting.

When fabric is manufactured in weaving loom or when the processing is done, the fabric is wound. During winding, the fabric is stretched and is been stretched until it is bought to garment industry. Thus fabric dimensions changes.

• Procedure for fabric relaxation –

1. Receive the fabric from fabric store department.

2. Start unwinding the roll either manually or using machine.

3. Measure the dimensions of the fabric before relaxation e.g. length, width, stretch ability, etc.

4. Pass it over the fabric relaxation machine.

5. Keep it in unrolled condition for few hours as per the nature of fabric or as per buyer’s requirement.

6. If the fabric needs low relaxation, it can be placed on table also by making lays for few hours.

7. After relaxation, measure the dimensions of the fabric e.g. length, width, stretch ability, etc.

8. Q.C. will check the reports of measurements for approval and further inspection e.g. 4-point system will be done.

9. After inspection and approval, fabric is send to the cutting department.
