 Roles and responsibilities of Production Merchandiser

Merchandiser is one of the most important person in the industry. So he/she have some very important responsibilities to conduct. It’s responsibilities includes all from buyer’s satisfaction to the factory’s satisfaction.

1. Communicate with the buyer -

To keep the buyer in contact, to keep a healthy relationship with buyer, a merchandiser must communicate with the buyer. So that company can have more orders and buyer can believe in the organisation.

2. Preparing time and action calendar -

Once the buyer places order to company, merchandiser is made to prepare time and action calendar which contains the dates at which various process is going to happen till delivery. Once the time and action calendar is done it is approved by the buyer if it’s ok.

3. Execute the order -

After getting order confirmed merchandiser starts to execute it. From buying the raw  material, inspection to the delivery merchandiser  makes it happen according the time and action calendar.

4. Gets sample approved -

Before processing to the bulk production few samples like proto sample, fit sample, size set sample and many more according to the buyer has to be create and must be approved by the buyer. As per buyer’s tech pack sampling department creates various samples one by one after the merchandiser gets them approved by the buyer.

5. Preparing cost sheet -

As per buyer’s order merchandiser creates cost sheet taking many aspects in consideration like raw material coat, production cost, maintenance cost and many other costs. It is very challenging task for merchandiser because merchandiser have to keep cost per piece as low as possible including company’s profit to remain stable in increased competition.

6. Prepare BOM -

BOM (Bill of Material) contains price of various buying good like raw material, trims, etc. Merchandiser creates BOM for every buying process to keep record of financial transaction. 

7. Track the material through out the process till delivery -

After buyer places an order, there are many process  to be conduct like buying raw material,  them, cutting, sewing, finishing, packing, etc. Merchandiser keeps tracking all this process till delivery as time and action calendar and keep informing buyer about progress of the order.

8. Supervising pre-production activities -

Before processing to the bulk production various activities is required to be done called as pre-production activities. It contains conforming of procurement of raw material, sapling, inspection, marker making, line balancing, preparing production file BOM, etc. All this process is inspected by merchandiser and then bulk production is started.
