·        Introduction -

Air pollution is one of the major factor which affects on the environment and human health severely. The pollution is mainly due to the smoke, motor vehicles, industry fumes, forest fires, etc. So to avoid or reduce the pollution that means to improve bad air quality, the non woven industry helps to solve this problem.

Nonwoven which has largest market in the world. Nonwoven for filtration media is widely used. Everyday one breaths around 20-30 kg of air & consumes around 1 kg of solid indoors for about 80% of each day. So the demand for higher air quality of life has increased importance of indoor air quality.

 

·       Filtration:

•Concept of air filtration:

The basic function of air filtration is to remove particulates and microorganisms.

The medium which is used consist of thin membrance performed with holes of desired size. The particles which are grater than the hole size trap in the membrance and less particle size or fluid can pass filtration is known of surface filtration .

Filtration is process of separation of material (liquid or solid)

  

•Filtration efficiency = mass of dust collected fabric *100 / Mass of dust fed

 

 • Cleaning efficiency = dust removed / Total dust by fabric

 

Filtration properties are influenced by fabric parameter, nature of dust, size of dust, air flow rate

The filtration efficiency increase from the coarser fabric to finer fiber fabric.


 •Mechanical property and structure relationship of nonwoven fabric:

-Influence of fabric arrangement an Tensile Strength:

 The tensile strength decreases with increasing angle of cut of specimen.

-Influence of fabric arrangement an Tearing Strength:

 Tearing strength is more in horizontal direction than vertical direction.

-Influence of fabric arrangement an Bursting Strength :

  In random web, it is lower than in parallel web.

-Air permeability and structure relationship  :

The pressure drop increase with noise flow rate. Air permeability affects porosity of fabric. 

  

•  How bike air filter can help to boost machines performance

The air filter works  like as  nose, the nose hairs don't allow dust in such a way the filter fabric prevents the unwanted particles rather than air, which leads to better efficiency and smooth power delivery.                                         

     Unlike our mouth bike has valve, if air supplies is through the valve then incomplete combustion and higher fuel consumption occurs. Mostly bike consist single or multiple layer filter, this filters placed inside an airbox, near the early point of engine's air intake mechanism,air is being fed into the wonder light engine causing has to pass through the air filter.

Where the unwanted particles cleared ,these particles can damage internal parts motar.

 •If a filter removed or not present then impurity will mix with oil and circulate in internals afterwards can cause scratches and thus metal parts mix with the oil,and lead to disrupt smooth movement  of piston in some cases the piston could be jammed due to excessive thickening of engine oil and result into a seizers.             

 •Mostly the paper type air filter are used in bites due to density of filter and efficient breathability.

It has speciality to consume more amount of an air, in this type single or many layer folded together to create a maze which is beneficial in vision to filter the air many times .

Nowadays performance filter made up of layer of cotton gauze layered between sheets of aluminium wire mesh. Thousands of microscopic cotton gauze fibre naturally hold an oil in a suspension to create a powerful filtering medium. Thus capturing performance is better as compared to paper based filters.

For high performance filter should be cleaned and most polluted we can use high performance bike air filter but also you have to do the fuelling weekly and modify motar for better performance.


·       Types of Air filters

1. Foam

It is a oil wetted polyurethane foam . It is widely in air compressor for the air tools upto 5HP.



2. Cotton

The factor that makes cotton filters so great is the way in which they manage the accumulated dirt. Once the cotton fibres collect the dirt particles, the oil layering suspends the contaminant away from the fibres, leaving the filter material free for the next onrush of mucky air.





3. Paper filter

These are cheap and disposable, there is no need of cleaning also we can't clean it.



4. Oil bathed

It is used where high level of dust prevention occur and high efficiency required.

5. Stainless Steel

It permit large quantity of air. There is wide range in mesh size. Due to lacking space, companies prefer stainless steel rather than cone based filter

6. Water bathed

It is used principal of working on oil bath air cleaners. dust prevention occur efficiently, around 20th century this filters came.

·       •  Mechanism of particle capture

Filter fabric is made on structure and size of contamination. Textile materials are suitable for filtration because of its long lasting and strength behavior, the chart shows size of contamination

1. Staining- It is a  process in which the large sized particles captures between two fibres. It is mainly depend upon density of fabric. It  is found in all filters.

2. Interception- It is mostly occur with small particle size. The small particle moves the streamline and travel around fibre and particle get captured when particle touches to the fibre and this phenomenon caused due to the vander walls force.

3. Intertial impation – It is seen in a large particles. It doesn’t acquire abrupt changes in streamline direction near a filter.

Fibre, the particle crash with the filter fibre due to its inertia. These filtration are highly seen in a gas velocities eg. Dense packing of filter media

4)Diffusion – it only apply for particle size less than 1um, particle moves in  a particular direction to make random orientation due to Brownian motion.

Today we are living in an of development of global culture ani uniform lifestyle, it is true that we are living in most advanced technological world and every one wants to live an easy and luxurious life. The craze of electromechanical vehicles increased nowadays   however we have to live in most purified environment so government and people should take some step to conserve our biodiversity.

   The air filter are the main way to decrease the pollution from the motorbikes, there are six types of filter and they are efficient as wel as ecofriendly. The air filter is main substance, who don't allow the foreign particle to pass in the engine and continue the purified air such thing improve the life time of engine and main and foremost importance is, increase the average of the bike.

Nowadays, technology is immensely improved that's why there are 99% efficient filters are available in the market therefore, we have  reduce the cost  of manufacturing.

The non-woven fabric is best way to reduce the cost also the man-made fibres have crucial role in decreasing price. The non-woven filter Nonwoven cause surface filtration with the help of a microfibre layer .There are several companies ,who manufacturers the filter ,not only these filter used in vehicles but in home textile, medical textile and face mask.
